AFCON 2017 – Gor Mahia’s Jacques Tuyisenge recalled to Amavubi

On form Gor Mahia forward Jacques Tuyisenge is making a return to the Rwanda national team, the “Amavubi” since Championship of African Nations (CHAN) in February. The prolific goal poacher who is currently flourishing in the Kenyan Premier after fully recovering from a long term knee injury has been named in Coach Johnny Mckinstry’s provisional twenty nine strong man team for Senegal friendly and AFCON 2017 group “H” qualifier return leg against Mozambique.

Tuyisenge is the leading goal scorer for the Sportpesa Premier League side with five goals; he was voted the fans player of the month of April, an achievement which tags along a glittering trophy and a cash reward.

His teammate at K’Ogalo, left full back Abouba Sibomana has also been summoned for the national duties despite limited playtime at the Kenyan reigning champions. The squad starts preparations on Sunday, May 22.

Amavubi takes on Teranga Lions of Senegal in an international friendly on May 28 at the Amahoro Stadium before hosting Mozambique at the same venue in the AFCON 2017 qualifier on June 4, a match they must win to keep their campaign to Gabon 2017 on course.

They (Rwanda) lie second behind Ghana in group “H” with six points. The Black Stars with ten points are favourites to sail through but the Amavubi still have a fighting chance to make it.

“The game against Senegal will be a great test for the players, as they are currently one of the leading sides in Africa. We wanted this type of game to ensure that the players would be well prepared a week later when we get down to the serious business of the Mozambique qualifier and regardless of the result against Senegal – we will be looking for a level of performance that shows everyone is ready for the challenge that awaits seven days later.” Mckinstry said.
