Former Cameroon international Patrick Mboma has expressed his concern about the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations organization in his country.

Mboma has signaled alarms due to reports that Algerian Football Federation had slipped a note to the CAF explaining their preparedness if Cameroon could be stripped of hosting rights for the newly extended event.

In an interview with Radio France International,Mboma said that the state of the preparations is troubling because there is no ready infrastructure by this time.

” I saw that the president of the Algerian Federation had slipped a note to the president of the Confederation of African Football, explaining to him that if necessary he would be a candidate for the organization of this competition,

” However, it is known that this AfCON and the two following ones are already allocated. So I think if he is on the lookout for AfCON 2019, he certainly has reasons.

“Moreover, when I see the state of progress of the work in Cameroon, I who said from the start that we had to go very fast, I think that the work is far from finished and that it is surely on what the Algerian president Kheireddine Zetchi is based,”said Mboma

Mboma added that the infrastructure is worrying AfCON 2019 and that is what may push Libya’s much intrest.

“The observation is that we are dragging. If Mr. Zetchi is aware of this, that is what makes him react. Because the rule, if I may say so, would have been to wait for a defection or to withdraw the competition in the country to come forward.

“When I talk to people in Cameroon about the construction of the stadium in Douala, the state of the roads and the stadium in Bafoussam, the great Paul Biya stadium, there is little or no progress. Not fast enough anyway.

“I did not study at the National Highway School, but I still saw some stadium projects grow. Even if we can count on the efficiency of Turkish, Portuguese or Chinese companies to deliver the works in a record time, I think it would have been good to act earlier so that today questions shouldn’t be arising.

Asked if the political crisis that has been undermining the Cameroonian Federation for nearly four years playing a major role in this situation Mboma said that should not be a reason for the federation failures.

“We had the AfCON 2019 award during this crisis. That had to be taken into account. It took a long time to set up the organizing committee for this competition. It was already a first problem. Who does what in the end? I’m not sure that the roles were really well defined. That raises the problem of the quality of the organization.

“I do not want to show that worry. But, out of prudence, and knowing my country, I do not find it unreasonable to recall that the AFCON 2019 takes place in only 18 months,”he concluded.

The 2019 Nations Cup will feature 24 teams instead of 16 and CAF has confirmed an inspection team will visit Cameroon later this month.
