Afcon 2021: Guinea twice come from behind to draw against Mali

Guinea twice came from behind to ensure a 2-2 away draw at Mali in Bamako and a positive start on Thursday to their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

Mali took the lead after half-time despite a defensive Guinean approach as the visiting goalkeeper Aly Kieta blundered.

He let a shot from Adama ‘Nos’ Traoré slips through his hands, injurying his shoulder in the process and being replaced by Moussa Camara.

But Guinea quickly put the setback behind them as Naby Keita equalised, drilling home a rebound in the 67th minute.

Substitute goalkeeper Camara then also made a mistake as he threw the ball out straight at the feet of Sekou Koita, who fire it back into the net to restore Mali’s advantage in the 71st minute.

But Ibrahima Conté set up the equaliser for 2-2 with across onto the head of Sekou Condé just four minutes after that.

Guinea now host Namibia in Conakry on Sunday while Mali must go away to play in Chad.
