Al Ahly clash with Zamalek in Super Cup sweet derby

Borg El Arab Stadium will host the Super Cup,the big derby between rivals Al Ahly and Zamalek which will witness the attendance of 100,000 fans.

Al Ahly won the 2019 league title by bridging an eight-point gap with perennial rivals Zamalek, who claimed a consolation by winning the Egypt Cup after beating Pyramids FC 3-0 in the final.

Al Ahly are the record winners of the Super Cup with 10 titles, seven clear of Zamalek.

Al Ahly news:
Last Saturday Saturday, the Red Devils defeated Equatorial Guinea’s Kano Sport 2-0 in the first leg game of the 32nd round of the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) Champions League.

“Defeating Kano Sport is a positive motivational push for the players ahead of the Egypt Super Cup. However, Ahly-Zamalek matches have their own calculations,” Komsan revealed.

“The domestic Super Cup final will definitely be a tough game, each side will play for the win and clinch a title at the beginning of the season.

“All the players are focused. Everyone on the team knows the importance of the game as it is a title game,” said the 43-year-old Ahly assistant coach and former player.

Zamalek News
Despite the first leg loss, Zamalek coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic says that his team will have a home advantage when they face Senegal’s Generation Foot in the return match of the African Champions League round of 32.

The Whites paid the price for resting several regulars as they slumped to a surprise 2-1 away defeat by the Senegalese side in the first leg on Saturday.

“We played against a strong team that won by taking the advantage of playing at home among its fans,” the Serbian Micho told ON Sport TV channel after the match.

Micho, who led Zamalek to the Egypt Cup title with a 3-0 final win over Pyramids last week, opted to rest several key players, apparently with an eye on the anticipated Egyptian Super Cup clash against Ahly on Friday.

“We played to dominate the game but we had two faults to receive two goals. We have a big chance to reach the next round as we will restore four players in the return match at home,” the Zamalek coach explained.

The EFA announced on Wednesday that the German referee, Felix Brych, will officiate the game and will be joined by assistants Mark Borsch and Stefan Lupp.

Felix Brych officiated many big clashes in Europe including 2012 UEFA Champions League semi-final between Chelsea and Barcelona, UEFA Europa League Final in 2014 Sevilla and Benfica and 2017 UEFA Champions League Final between Real Madrid and Juventus.

The Egyptian fans followed the German performance on Tuesday as he officiated the clash between Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool and Napoli at UEFA Champions League which ended with a 2-0 victory for the Italian club.
