Al Ahly to clash against Mamelodi Sundowns in CAF CL Quarter-finals

Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly have been drawn against South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns  in the quarter finals of the CAF Champions League.

Al Ahly finished on top of their Champions League group with 10 points, just one above Simba SC.

Sundowns on the other hand finished second behind Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca.

The South African giants most recently won the tournament in 2016 when they beat Egypt’s Zamalek 3-1 on aggregate in the final.

Both sides faced each other on four different occasions in the CAF Champions League. The Red Devils came out on top twice while the two other games ended in a draw. During these games Al Ahly scored a total of eight goals whilst the Downs scored just three goals.

The winner between these two sides will face the winer in the CS Constantine and Esperance Sportive de Tunis in the semi-finals.

As for the two other games, Guinean side Horoya AC will be facing Wydad Casablanca. And Tanzanian side Simba SC will play against TP Mazember from DR Congo.

Al Ahly are currently second on the league table with 51 points, two behind league leaders Zamalek, whom they’ll face in their upcoming game on March 30.

As for Mamelodi Sundowns they are on top of the league table with 43 points. They next game will be against fifth-placed SuperSport United on April 7.
