Algeria coach Belmadi names 23-man squad to begin AFCON Preps

Algeria manager Djamel Belmadi has picked his 23 man squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt this summer.

The star name is of course Man City winger and Premier League title winner Riyad Mahrez. Adlene Guedioura from Nottingham Forest is also involved from English football.

However, there is no place for Faouzi Ghoulam, Nabil Bentaleb, Saphir Taider, Andy Delort, Rachid Ghezzal, Said Benrahma or Ishak Belfodil to the surprise of many.

Islam Slimani is also a shock involvement despite his limited playing time for Fenerbahce in the Turkish league this season with just one goal scored. He was on loan from Leicester City.

Hichem Boudaoui from Paradou is the only Algerian League player involved in the squad. There are also three players from the Saudi League.

Goalkeepers: Rais M’Bolhi, Azzedine Doukha, Alexandre Oukidja

Defenders: Ramy Bensebaini, Mohamed Fares, Youcef Atal, Mehdi Zeffane, Aissa Mandi, Djamel Benlamri, Rafik Halliche, Mehdi Tahrat

Midfielders: Mehdi Abeid, Hichem Boudaoui, Adlene Guedioura, Haris Belkebla, Ismael Bennacer, Sofiane Feghouli

Forwards: Riyad Mahrez, Adam Ounas, Yacine Brahimi, Youcef Belaili, Baghdad Bounedjah, Islam Slimani

The tournament kicks off on June 21st in Cairo with Algeria playing two friendlies beforehand. Follow Algeria at AFCON 2019 in English with DZ Football.
