Kenya international Allan Wanga has trained his sights on winning the Kenyan Premier League title with Tusker just like he did in 2007.
Wanga, who was a brewer’s deadline day acquisition from Tanzanian club Azam, says that he will commit his vast experience to help the 10-time champions reclaim the KPL silverware they last held in 2012.
“I knew of the club’s targets even before I signed the contract. It is no secret that Tusker needs to win the KPL trophy and I want to help where I can to ensure that happens.
“I can’t foretell how many goals I will score, but I promise to work very hard so that I can deliver on my part. I have won the trophy with them before and want to do it again. I know how it feels and that is a strong motivation,” he told kpl.co.ke.
Wanga top scored in the league in 2007 as he helped Tusker clinch the title in dominant fashion.
The speedy forward with an eye for the spectacular goal signed a two-year contract with Tusker on Saturday, and secured his International Transfer Certificate from reluctant Azam just moments before the transfer window shut.
His return to Tusker after many years is considered one of the high profile transfers of June alongside that of Meddie Kagere, who also made a return to Gor Mahia.
The 29-year old Wanga will now compete for a starting position in Paul Nkata’s line up with the likes of Mike Khamati, Stephen Owusu and Clifford Alwanga.
Wanga began his football career in 2005 when he played for former nationwide team Lolwe FC in Kisumu.
He joined Tusker in early 2007, in the course of the season, and scored a league high 21 goals to help the brewers win the Kenyan championships that year. His heroics landed him at Angola’s top tier outfit Petro Atletico where he featured for two season before moving to Azerbaijani club FC Baku in January 2010 for six months. He then transferred to Vietnamese club Hoàng Anh Gia.
The much travelled Wanga returned to Kenya’s top league in January 2012 with AFC Leopards on a season long loan deal before he made the deal permanent at the end of that year.
The father of two would then leave the local league in 2014 after receiving a lucrative offer from Sudanese club El Merreikh where he stayed for a season before joining Azam of Tanzania in July 2015.
