Anthony “Viera” Akumu heading to Zambian champions Zesco United.

23 years old Kenyan international midfielder Anthony Akumu Agai is reported to be on his way to Zambian Super League Champions Zesco United.

According to Puncherello Chama a renowned Zambian football journalist, the lanky midfielder is traveling to Ndola to negotiate a deal with “Timu Yaziko”

“Kenyan International midfielder Anthony “Viera” Akumu is on his way to Ndola on Monday to seal a deal with Zesco United. The defensive minded player currently plays alongside Victor Wanyama in Harambee Stars midfield and is currently attached to Sudan club Al Khartoum.” Chama posted on his Facebook timeline.

Nicknamed “Viera” after French international Patrice Viera for their near similar style of play, Akumu started his senior career with Kenyan champions Gor Mahia in 2010, where he grew in stature becoming a vital cog in the midfield. He burst into the limelight in the 2013 season after a splendid performance helping K’Ogalo to their first league title in 18 years; he was voted the best midfielder in the same season.

Akumu moved to Al Khartoum mid 2014 on a loan deal which was later made permanent for the 2015 season after impressing former Ghana World Cup coach Kwesi Appiah. Under Appiah Akumu was majorly deployed to cover the back four with occasional ventures forward to assist in attack; this was evident during the 2015 CECAFA Kagame Cup where he scored a scorcher against KMKM of Zanzibar.

At the national level, he has lately been paired with the Southampton FC midfielder Victor Wanyama in the holding midfield role.

A great game reader, Akumu has the ability to deliver long range accurate passes and is also a great ball winner in the mid. He can also play as a center back.

Soka25east tried to reach the player but his phone was switched off by the time the article was published.
