AS Vita have lost out on top spot in their 2018 CAF Confederation Cup group after suffering a 2-0 loss away to ASEC Mimosas in Abidjan on Wednesday night.

The result saw the Ivorian giants move up to nine points on the Group A log, but they finished in third behind Morocco’s Raja Casablanca (who claimed a big win at home to already-eliminated Aduana Stars) on 11 points and the DR Congo heavyweights on 10 points.

ASEC’s victory was secured by goals from Braciano Ta Bi and Issa Sanogo in the 14th and 26th minutes respectively.

Vita, who were already assured of their place in the knockout rounds regardless of the result, were unable to fight their way back into the game. A draw would have been enough to secure top spot – instead they will enter the last eight draw as an unseeded team.

Vita and Raja are joined in the knockout stages by RS Berkane (Morocco), Al Masry (Egypt), Enyimba (Nigeria), CARA Brazzaville (Congo), USM Alger (Algeria) and Rayon Sports (Rwanda).
