The Botswana Football Association (BFA) President Maclean Letshwiti is seeking to become an executive committee member of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), at the much-anticipated Elective Congress slated for March 12, 2021 in Casablanca, Morocco.

“I would like to announce my candidacy for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) EXCO member COSAFA region in the elective congress slated for March 12, 2021 in Casablanca, Morocco. This is my first time running for the position, and now more than ever, I think it’s time…it’s time to bring in new ideas, new faces, progressive thinking, and most importantly, progressive action,” said Letshwiti this week.

As a respected businessman with over 30 years of business and corporate leadership experience, Letshwiti has stirred both listed and non-listed blue-chip companies to greater heights.

His admirable footprints are glaring in several economic sectors, and he strongly believes his business acumen will positively add value and be fruitful for CAF.

“In football circles, I’m a revered trailblazer, with an incredible knack for perfectionism, having served as member of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, member of Organizing Committee for the Africa Cup of Nations, member of COSAFA Executive Committee as well as Chairman of COSAFA Legal and Statutes Committee. During the 2018 FIFA World Cup, held in Russia I also served as a member of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee,” added Letshwiti.

Letshwiti is vying for the EXCO seat under the COSAFA region which has 2 seats in the board. He will battle it out with Feizal Ismael Sidat (Mozambique), Elvis Raja Chetty (Seychelles) and Arthur De Almeida E. Silva (Angola).

The CAF governance committee last week in Cairo, Egypt approved the following candidates for the exco election from their respective blocks. They are Wadie Jary (Tunisia), Mustapha Ishola Raji (Liberia), Djibrilla Hima Hamidou (Niger), Edwin Simeon- Okraku (Ghana), Adoum Djibrine (Chad), Suleiman Waberi (Djibouti), Isayas Jira (Ethiopia), Kanizat Ibrahim (Comoros), Lawson Hogban-Latré-Kayti Edzona (Togo), while nominations requiring additional verifications include Mamadou Antonio Souaré (Guinea), Seidou Mbombo Njoya (Cameroun) and Arthur De Almeida E. Silva (Angola).

The BFA has openly supported South African business tycoon and Mamelodi Sundowns president, Dr. Patrice Motsepe who is vying for the CAF presidency. Motsepe faces competition from Ahmed Yahya of Mauritania and Senegal’s Augustin Senghor and Jacques Anouma of Ivory Coast.
