Uganda Cranes and KCCA FC full back Joseph Benson Ochaya was on Friday crowned the most valuable player in the Azam Uganda Premier League 2015/16 season.

The gala awards that took place at Serena Kampala brought together all stakeholders in the Ugandan football in a celebration of hard work and excellence.

The occasion was graced by among others, the guest of honor Major General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, FUFA president ENG. Moses Magogo and Uganda Cranes Coach Milutin “Micho” Ssredojovic.

The night belonged to 23-year old Ochaya, who took home the biggest prize on offer, a Subaru Forester, and a glittering trophy.

On Thursday, the former Asante Kotoko player returned from successful trials with Premier Soccer League side Bidvest Wits of South Africa, he is expected to sign with the bankers in due course.

“I think I deserved to win it.” Ochaya flanked by wife and kid said.

KCCA, the reigning champions were a dominant force in the awards walking away with majority awards among others; Coach of the year Mike Mutebi, CEO of the year David Tamale, Best midfielder Muzamir Mutyaba and Fan of the year Ali Kafeero.

Golden boot went to Robert Sentongo of URA FC, while Halid Lwaliwa of Vipers SC bagged the upcoming player of the year award.

URA’s Semeone Masaba was recognized as the longest serving UPL player with Martin Kiiza being awarded for being the most exciting player on TV.

Golden gloves accolade went Mathius Muwanga way with JMC’s Musa Walangarira taking home best defender gong.

Saona FC’s Musa Esenu was voted Fans Player of the Year.
