Liberia Football Association (LFA) president Mr. Musa Hassan Bility has proposed inclusion of three foreign based professionals, in Championship of African Nations (CHAN).

Musa who was quoted by the LFA on October 14, said, the three should be drawn from professional leagues in Africa – adding that the proposal is in tandem with Olympics standards, and was made during the recent CAF congress in Cairo, Egypt.

He confirmed that the proposal was accepted by CHAN Committee, and had been forwarded to the Executive Committee of CAF for review.

The 48-year old former Watanga FC player holds that the suggestions if implemented, will add the needed quality, and create more competition in the tournament played purely by home based professionals.

“We want to strengthen it, we want to be able to ensure some finances be made available for preparation for the competition,” Musa, a former FIFA presidential aspirant said.

The competition will not change its format according to Musa, and the qualifying series will hopefully commence in March next year and not in June as is scheduled.

He assured Liberia’s participation as a way of building the national team, the Lone Star, and enhancing development of local talents.

Kenya hosts the next edition from 11th January to 2nd February, 2018.

DR Congo are the defending champions – after winning the 4th edition hosted in 2016, in Rwanda.
