St. George of Ethiopia edged AC Leopards of Congo Brazzaville 1-0 in the Confederation of African football (CAF) Champions League first round tie played at the Stade Denis Sassou Nguesso on Sunday.

Mintesnot Adane struck the lone goal for “the Horsemen” in the 28th minute – off Salhadin Seid’s rebound shot.

Adane was later be sent for early showers deep into the encounter; however, they managed to cling onto to the slender advantage – heading into the return leg in a week’s time in Addis Ababa.

In another CL fixture, 5-times champions TP Mazembe of the DR Congo were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Zimbabwe’s CAPS United at the dreaded Stade Mazembe.

The Ravens got off to bad start conceding an own goal in the first minute through Issama Mpeke, nonetheless they managed to restore parity with Captain Rainford Kalaba’s leveler eight minutes later.

The visitors bulged no further – holding on to the draw and the invaluable away goal.

The return leg will be played in Harare on Sunday.
