CAF CL Preview: Primeiro De Agosto vs Etoile Du Sahel

Angolan side Primeiro De Agosto host Etoile Du Sahel of Tunisia in a CAF Champions League Group D fixture set to be played on Saturday 5 May at Estadio 11 de Novembro in Luanda.

De Agosto dumped South African club Bidvest Wits in the previous stage under Serbian coach Zaron Maki and they are setting their sights on beating the best in the continent.

The two-time Angola champions will be without prolific goal scorer Gerson, who suffered a knee-injury in a Girobola League match back home.

De Agosto are hopeful he could still make the game in front of the home fans but at the moment he is a major doubt ahead of tie.

It will be interesting to see whether their skipper, Dani Massgunguna, will command another start as he was disappointing in the previous Champions League match away to Wits.

Massgunguna was at his best previously when the Luanda-based side dispatched Zimbabwean top flight outfit FC Platinum 5-1 on aggregate in the first round of the competition.

“It is the spirit that moves us. We are playing at home and we have an obligation to win. We are going through a good moment of form and we expect nothing less than a win,” said Massgunguna as quoted Jornal de Angola after their last training session yesterday.

However, Sahel are known to be an attacking side and have promised to start their campaign on a high, but will have to be wary of the so called minnows away in Luanda.

They beat Plateau United of Nigeria 4-2 in the previous round at home and went on to lose 1-0 to the West Africans in the second leg.

However, the result did not stop them from claiming a spot in the group stages after a 4-3 aggregate win.

De Agosto have an excellent record against Tunisia teams in continental club matches having won three of their previous games.
