Confederation of African Football (CAF) is set to repeal a law – allowing only the 13 members of its Executive Council to challenge for the presidency.

A draft amendment to the law passed at CAF’s 2012 General Assembly in Seychelles, has already been sent to national federations, ahead of next month’s assembly in Ethiopia.

“That rule will be removed in Addis Ababa,” Issa Hayatou, the incumbent president, who will gunning for a record 8th term against Madagascar’s Ahmad during the meet told Kwese Sports.

He added, “All the national federations have a draft of the amendment and they will vote on it during the congress.”

A similar proposal fronted by Djibouti last year flopped in Cairo – garnering 16 votes against 32, with 5 abstentions, and hence failing the 75% approval threshold required.
