CAF request Al Ahly & Zamalek to get alternative to Borg Al Arab

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have officially requested from Cairo giants Al Ahly and Zamalek to provide an alternative option for Borg Al Arab Stadium for their African commitments.

Al Ahly were drawn against Mamelodi Sundowns in the quarterfinals of the CAF Champions League, with ties are expected to take place in April.

On the other hand, Zamalek were drawn against Moroccan side Hassania US Agadir in the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals.

Both teams were naturally bound to play their home games at Borg Al Arab Stadium, but CAF statement will cause a change of plans.

The Egyptian Football Association announced they have been notified by African football’s governing body to provide the names of one or more alternative venues for the return legs of the two African club competitions where Al Ahly and Zamalek are participating.

EFA said that CAF’s request comes after the poor condition the grass of Borg Al Arab pitch appeared on in the recent games which were hosted by Egyptian clubs in the African competitions.
