Gor Mahia have become the first Kenyan club to qualify to the CAF Confederation Cup group stage in the modern form.

Despite going down 2-1 to South Africa’s Supersport United in the playoffs return match in Pretoria Wednesday, K’Ogalo squeezed through on away goal’s rule after 2-2 aggregate score.

After a solid defending in the first half which ended 0-0, Gor conceded an own goal through skipper Harun Shakava in the 59th minute, but Francis Kahata leveled immediately after restart.

Thabo Mnyamane restored the 2017 runners-up’s lead in the 68th minute but the 1987 CAF Winners’ Cup winners held onto the away goal’s advantage to reach the table of men.

The coach Dylan Kerr’s side missed services two of his dependable players in the match namely Ivorian Ephrem Guikan and Rwandan Jaques Tuyisenge, who were denied visas to the Southern African country.

Gor were also forced to travel late on the eve of the game and did not have a feel of the Lucas Moripe Stadium before the game due to visa frustrations by the South Africa embassy in Nairobi.

But despite the odds, the 16-times Kenyan managed to write another piece of history in their decorated history book.

Gor will now wait to know their opponents at the stage after the draw is held in Cairo, Egypt on April 21st.
