Rayon Sports of Rwanda rallied to pick a point against Kenya’s Gor Mahia in the opening group “D” match of the CAF Confederation played at a waterlogged Kigali Stadium Sunday.

Ugandan-born Rwandan striker Meddie Kagere got the visitors off to a flying start – netting the opener in the 10th minute after beating the offside trap.

But in the 24th Eric Rutanga responded with a wonderful free-kick that left Gor’s keeper static between the posts. The match was tied 1-1 at the first breather.

Heavy rains just before the half hour mark slowed down the game as the ball could not move as intended. More rains pounded the field at the start of the second half and before the final whistle.

The second half was an end to end affair; however, Gor will feel that should have bagged all the three points as they created and wasted more clear cut chances especially Francis Kahata, who fired marginally with Rayon’s keeper Ndayishimiye Eric well beaten.

In the other match of the group USM Alger take on Yanga SC later tonight.

Rayon will travel to Tanzania for their second group match on May 16th while Gor will host USM Alger of Algeria on the same day.
