CECAFA’s hopefuls in the CAF Confederation Cup playoffs round got off to a bright start over the weekend ahead of return matches next week.

Of the seven clubs from the region who were in action, five managed to record wins with only two losing.

Rayon Sports of Rwanda were the most convincing – hammering visiting Club Desportivo Coast do Sol of Mozambique 3-0 at Amahoro Stadium, Kigali.

Tanzania’s Yanga SC and Sudan’s Al Hilal Omdurman managed identical 2-0 wins over Wolaitta Dicha of Ethiopia and Akwa United of Nigeria respectively.

Kenyan champions Gor Mahia and Ethiopian giants St. George squeezed 1-0 wins over Supersport United of South Africa and CARA of Congo Brazzaville in that order.

Al Hilal El Obeid of Sudan were, however, unlucky falling 3-1 away to Uniao Desportiva do Songo of Mozambique.

The winners will fancy their chances heading into the return matches next week Tuesday and Wednesday with aggregate winners sailing through to the Confederation Cup groups stage.
