Hossam El-Badry has resigned as Al Ahly coach following Tuesday evening’s 2-0 loss to KCCA of Uganda in the CAF Champions League Group A match staged at Nelson Mandela Stadium, Kampala.

Ahly’s management accepted the 58-year old’s decision hence ending his third stint at the helm of the Africa’s club of the century.

“Football committee has accepted Hossam Al-Badry’s resignation,” the club tweeted this evening.

Heading into the Kampala duel, Hossam was under pressure to produce favorable results having drawn their group opener 0-0 against neighboring rivals Esperance de Tunis of Tunisia.

But all did not go well as the Red Devils succumbed to Saddam Juma’s 73rd minute scorcher and Timothy Awany’s 89th minute penalty.

Earlier in the game, the 40-times Egyptian champions missed a penalty through Walid Soliman, who watched as KCCA’s keeper Charles Lukwago saved his penalty in the 24th minute.

Hossam joined Ahly in August 2016 for the third time – succeeding 62-year-old Dutchman Martin Jol. During the spell, he won the Egyptian league twice, Egypt Cup and Egypt Super Cup once apiece.

However, he failed to deliver the most important trophy to Ahly, the elusive ninth African title – finishing runners-up to Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in the last year’s campaign.
