Gor Mahia settled to a frustrating 0-0 draw against Esperance du Tunis in the CAF Champions League first round first leg at Machakos’ Kenyatta Stadium Wednesday.

Gor fought gallantly against the fancied North Africans, who are ranked third in Africa, and will count themselves unlucky as they missed numerous glaring chances in front of goal.

Rwandan duo of Meddie Kagere and Jacques Tuyisenge were the main culprits – missing chances that could have decided the match in the first half.

The Tunisians looked better in the second half but could not break a solid backline of the Kenyans marshaled by skipper Harun Shakava and experienced Joash Onyango.

Esperance, despite deploying time wasting tactics known for West African teams, failed to hit a single shot on target.

Gor travel to Tunis for the return match next week with a slim hope of making it to the groups stage of the prestigious tournament.

Any scoring draw will work in favor of the coach Dylan Kerr’s side.

In another match of the day, Ethiopia’s St. George were also held to a barren draw by visiting KCCA of Uganda.

2016 semi-finalists Zesco United of Zambia went down 1-0 to ASEC Mimosas of Cote d’Ivoire at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Ndola, Zambia.
