Mamelodi Sundowns edged Wydad Athletic Club 1-0 in the CAF Champions League quarter-final first leg at Lucas Moripe Stadium Sunday.

Ivorian forward Yannick headed home the all-important goal in the 70th minute after a period of the hosts’ dominance.

The defending champions carry the slim lead to the Mohamed V Stadium for the second leg in a week’s time with the aggregate winner sailing to the semi-final.

Wydad coach Hussein Ammouta is counting on their strong home record to reverse the result and sail through.

“We did well stopping opposition’s danger, our wingers didn’t have success, 1-0 is a good result, we we’re much stronger at home,” Ammouta said.

The 19-times Moroccan champions are gunning for a second CAF Champions League same as Sundowns who are seeking to defend their crown.
