Cameroon cancel all football activities, PWD Bamenda crowned Champions

The Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) have announced the suspension of all have football activities in the country with PWD Bamenda crowned winners of the Elite Division.

Cameroon who were getting ready to host the CHAN in April, with the event eventually failing to take off after CAF suspended it..

All football activities in the country also came to a halt due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Covid-19 cases in Cameroon have risen close to 3000 which has prompted the country’s football governing body to cancel the 2019/20 football season.

The decision means that current league leaders PWD Bamenda will be crowned champions for the first time in their history, just four years after being promoted to the first division.

The head coach of PWD social club of Bamenda, David Pagou, has expressed his happiness, as his team was declared Cameroon league one winners for the 2019_2020 season, following a decision from the Cameroon Football Federation, to end the football season in the country.

PWD was topping the league with 47 points after 28 games played, and history now holds that David Pagou led a group of warriors, who won PWD their first major silverware, in the 58_year old history of the team.

“We are very happy because we merit it. PWD was the most consistent team in the league”, David Pagou told kick442.com.

“After about eight games, we stayed in the top half of the league and we were dangling between the first, second and third positions.

“We were waiting for a good moment to go to the top and on the 28 day of play against Union in Limbe, we consolidated our top spot.

“It is the first league title for PWD of Bamenda and it is the fruits of a team work, with President Abunde Pascal as head, the technical staff, the players, the communication department and the fans.

“I just so happy and congrats to my players who executed the project”, Pagou added.

Second division champions Les Astres and second-placed Yafoot will be promoted. Meaning that there will be 20 teams in the MTN Elite 1 championship next season because all clubs occupying the 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th positions in the first division will not be relegated.

Maletos and New Star, who currently sit bottom of the Cameroonian second division, will also avoid relegation.

The same will be applied for the women’s football league, as the league leaders will be crowned champions and there will be no relegations.

All youth leagues will be cancelled and all clubs will be affiliated to the same league next season.
