By Etienne Mainimo Mengnjo,

The long awaited Cameroon FA (FECAFOOT) polls are set for 17th August 2018. This was revealed by the federation’s Normalization Committee president Dueidonne Happi at a presser Thursday in Yaounde.

Present during the announcement were six members of the caretaker organ that was installed by FIFA to restore sanity in the management of the game in the country after years of wrangles.

Happi was categorical that their mandate will not be extended and they are doing everything within their powers to ensure that they beat the 31st August deadline to handover to a new administration.

According to events’ program, the 2009 General Assembly will convene to adopt the new FECAFOOT statutes and the electoral code on 23rd June.

Statutes for divisional and regional leagues will be adopted between 29th June and 6th July.

Deposition of candidates, publication and convening of an elective General Assembly for divisional and regional levels are scheduled to run from 8th July to 8th August.

The national elective General Assembly will convene on 4th to 9th August followed by elections of the National Executive of FECAFOOT on 17th August.

After handing over the command button to the newly elected executive between 27th and 30th August, the Normalization Committee will end their mandate on 31st August.

Indomitable Lions

Apart from presenting the elections road map, the Normalization Committee also shaded more light on the process appointing new coach for the senior men’s national team, the Indomitable Lions.

As per plan, the coach will only be appointed from the list that was interviewed in France last week by the committee charged with the task of getting the Lions a new boss.

Without giving any timelines, the committee pledged the government will announce the Hugo Broos’ successor as soon as possible.

2026 World Cup bid

Happi disclosed that Cameroon will support Morocco’s bid for the hosting right for the 2026 World Cup.
