The indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon have registered their first defeat in the ongoing Women 2018 South African Football Association Council (COSAFA) Women’s Football Friendly Tournament.

The Lionesses were beaten 1-0 by Zambia in the second day of play in the tournament staged last September 15 at the Wolfson Stadium in Nelson Mandela Bay. Zambia’s Lushomo Mweemba scored the only goal of the game with an excellent free-kick.

The win puts Zambia on six points after two games so far and need just a point in their final game against Mozambique on Tuesday to secure top-spot and advance to the semifinals.

Cameroon on their part is believing to also qualify as the best second-place finisher, especially with their healthy goal-difference built up in an 8-1 success over the Mozambicans in their opening match. They will take on Lesotho is the last group match on Tuesday September 18.

Cameroon and Zambia will participate in the upcoming African Women’s Championship in Ghana in November 2018.

Meanwhile, Mozambique kept their slim semifinal hopes alive after crushing Lesotho 2-1 in the first match of the group.

The first half was goalless, though Mozambique Cidalia Cuta missed an excellent chance to score when she found herself one-on-one with Lesotho goalkeeper Thuto Maifo.

However, Cuta did grab her second goal of the championships when she netted early in the second half, but Lesotho found an equalizer when Litseoana Maloro netted on the hour-mark.

At the 72nd minutes, Lucia Moçambique of Mozambique netted from a direct free-kick for an excellent winner.
