Konyaspor have terminated the contract of star striker Samuel Eto’o, the club has officially announced.

The news comes after several days of reports claiming the two parties couldn’t see eye-to-eye on the finances of the player’s contract.

The Anatolian Eagle have made the decision after holding numerous talks with the ex-Barcelona player in order to convince him to lower his salary. The Cameroon star refused to budge on his wages, however.

He was earning €2.5 million (with bonuses) per year at Konyaspor but due to the weak Turkish Lira, the club were forced to look at ways of reducing their expenses.

Konyaspor thanked the player for his services and dedication during his time with the club with a farewell message on their website.
