Cape Verde were stunned when they lost 1-0 Libya during their 2017 CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Estádio Nacional de Cabo Verde in Praia on Saturday night.

Following the loss, the Blue Sharks have nine points from six matches and are at No 2 in the group – which means they have failed to book their ticket to the continental showpiece in Gabon.

Morocco are the side who will qualify from Group F, ahead of Cape Verde, Libya and Sao Tome and Principe.

Coach Rui Aguas pushed his side to go for a win, but failed to bag the full three points as they were stunned at home.

Despite both sides making efforts to bag an opener, it remained goalless as the teams went to the tunnel.

In the second half, neither team created clear chances to bag a goal but in the dying minutes Libya managed to do better.

The Mediterranean Knights managed to get the lead through Fouad Al Triki when he scored for the 2014 CAF Africa Championships (CHAN) winners in the 90th minute.

However, Libya ended on a bad note in injury time as they received a red card and were reduced to ten men.

Nonetheless, they managed to contain the attack from the hosts to bag the full three points.

In the wake of the loss, Libya remain placed at No 3 with seven points as they finished their campaign and will not feature in Gabon next year.

Cape Verde: (0) 1

Libya: (0) 1 (Al Triki 90′)
