CAS dismiss Palmer’s appeal against Ghana FA

By Dom Agbakpe

The adjudicatory chamber of the Court for Arbitration for Sports (CAS) has dismissed the appeal filed by Wilfred Osei Palmer against Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The Tema Youth Bankroller was disqualified from the contest on the recommendation of a vetting committee, set up by the defunct CAF/FIFA Normalisation Committee headed by Dr. Kofi Amoah for breaching financial regulations after the sale of a player of his club – Joseph Painstil – to KRC Genk in 2017.

The infuriated ex-FA council member headed to CAS to seek redress for what he termed as “unfair disqualification.”

But after double deferrals, CAS has come out with the verdict signed by the President of the Panel, Michele, A.R. Bernasconi.

It reads:

The Court fo arbitration for Sports rules that: The appeal file on 14 October, 2019 by Mr. Wilfred Kwaku Osei against the Ghana Football Association (GFA) with respect to the decision rendered on 4 October, 2019 respectively 8 October 2019 by the Elections Committee of the Respondent is dismissed.

  1. The decision rendered on 4 October respectively 8, October, 2019 by the GFA Election Committee by the respondent is confirmed.
  2. The cost of the arbitration to be determined and served to the parties by the CAS Court office shall be borne by Mr. Wilfred Kwaku Osei.
  3. Each party shall bear its own cost in connection with these arbitration proceedings.
  4. All other or further claims are dismissed.
