It’s the chairman’s mandate to call for elections – Ambrose Rachier

Gor Mahia Chairman Mr. Ambrose Dickson Otieno Rachier has referred those calling for Annual General Meeting on April 3, to re-read the sports act and the club’s constitution which gives the chair sole mandate to do so.

In an interview with Soka25east.com this evening “ADOR” said those agitating for the elections are self seekers who are only after dipping their hands in the cookie jar after the club signed a lucrative sponsorship deal with “SportPesa”

“Where have they been when the club was struggling?” He asked.

“Now that we have a sponsor everyone wants to become Gor Mahia Chairman. Their only interest is the sponsorship money, nothing more.”

A letter supposedly from the Ministry of Sports, Arts and Culture, signed by Josiah Oliech  (Not seen by Soka25east.com), is calling for the much awaited polls on April 3 at Nyayo Stadium.

Rachier termed the move unlawful adding that the term of the current office is still valid; “Oliech Kwaru is just being used by some aspirants to call for elections, but he doesn’t have the powers. We are legally in office till August 2017.”

Dan Oketch is seen as the front runner in the race to unseat the incumbent. Others are; Eric Adede and former Secretary General Chris Omondi – the two have not officially declared their candidatures.

In another news, Gor Mahia will on Friday unveil ” Crown Lager ” as a co-sponsor. This was confirmed by the chairman, Rachier. The deal is rumoured to be worth Kshs 15M per year – it’s duration remains a secret.
