Congo will miss striker Bersyl Obassi for today’s clash against Angola in Morocco. Striker Obassi has been ruled out of the Red Devils’ last African Nations Championships (Chan) Group D match against Angola, following a thigh injury sustained during training.

Obassi collided with his goalkeeper Barel Muoko leading to the injury on Sunday, according to the Congolese Football Federation  media officer,Emmanuel Kaba.

He sat out Tuesday’s training and team coach Barthelemy Ngatsono later confirmed that the striker will miss the match.

“He suffered what we call a dead leg syndrome after clashing with the goalkeeper, leading to a crashing of the muscles.

“We are working on him, but what is certain is that he will not be ready by Wednesday.

Obasi was naturally devastated, “I was hoping to carry on from but unfortunately I have to miss out. My aim was to score a goal for my country.

“Angola is a good team, but they seem to tire early, particularly in the second half, so it is very critical that we capitalise on that and get an early goal in the opening minutes of the game and finish them off in the second half,” Obassi said.

Obassi injury is a big blow to Congo who lost Moise Nkounkou during the first group match against Cameroon. There is minimal chance to see both in the tournament again.
