Nigeria hope of qualifying for the knockout stage of the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) depends on the outcome of their match against Libya at the Stade Ibn Batouta in Tangier, this evening.

The Super Eagles were held into a goalless draw against Rwanda in opening game of Group C and need to play out of their skin to be assured of a quarter-final ticket.

Their opponents top the group after they thrashed Equatorial Guinea 3-0 in their first group match on Monday. Nigeria are joint second and anything less will put the team on edge in their last group game.

Nigeria coach Salisu Yusuf believes his side will play to full potential and put themselves in good stead to make it to the next round.

“The Libyans did not only win their opening match, but played very well and will be more confident ahead of our match. However, with more effort from my strikers and by God’s grace we should get a positive result,” Yusuf told reporters.

Libya coach Omar El Maryami has admitted it will not be easy playing wounded Eagles but he is hopeful for a win.

“The match against Nigeria will be very difficult because Nigeria is a big name in African football. This is a very important game for us because victory will seal our qualification,”said Maryami.

“We won the CHAN in 2014 and we want to replicate that performance. I have an idea about this Nigerian team after their first match against Rwanda. The players are ready, focused on the game and want to win,” added Maryami.

The other Group C match between Rwanda and Equatorial Guinea will also be played tonight.
