Sao Tome coach Gustavo Clemente admits his side were second best in a 2-0 defeat to Cameroon in 2018 CHAN qualifier match played in Sao Tome on Saturday.

The home side looked out of sort and could not recover from a 42nd minute goal scored by striker Frantz Pangop with Raymond Fosso adding second on the 75th minute.

Many of Cameroon players did not come to the party and will be up in a show back in Doula next weekend.

The defeat preserved the status quo with Sao Tome still without a win in six matches against the Indomitable Lions.

In an interview after the match Clemente congratulated Cameroon for the victory.

“Congratulations to Cameroon, they deserved the victory. The difference is also the routine of the competition. We played in front of a Cameroonian team already well welded, very solid, with a frame very well mounted.

“In Sao Tome, we are rebuilding a national team that we have done with young people around 20 years old. It is not good to lose at home, but to lose us to a team like Cameroon 0-2 is not bad for a young team. ”

Gustavo Clementé, a native of Cameroon whose local name is Clément Gustave Nkede left the country for 20 years ago but explains his links with his native country.

“I have known Rigobert Song among the younger players as a Lions player, but as a coach I have no experience in Cameroon. It was Sao Tomé who gave me training in Europe. It’s going on well here. I even have an academy, most of the youngsters who have evolved this afternoon have come out of my center. I raise the name of Cameroon by serving another country ,”he concluded.
