Sudan edged Guinea 2-1 in their opening group ‘A’ fixture of the CHAN 2018 at Mohammed V Stadium, Casablanca, Morocco.

Omer Omer and Saifeldin Bakhit scored to seal the hard fought win for the East Africans, while Sekou Camara netted the lone goal for West Africans.

Sudan move second in the group on three points behind hosts Morocco, who enjoys a superior goal difference.

Omer broke the deadlock – towering high before nodding home off Al Samani Sawi’s delivery to give the coach Zdravko Logarusic’s side the lead in the 19th minute.

Guinea took charge after falling behind as they enjoyed possession that could not translate into goals.

Sudan took the slim 1-0 advantage into the breather.

On resumption, Guinea kept possession as they upped the ante in search for the leveler. Sekou found it in the 55th with a peach of a header, which leaft Sudan’s goalkeeper Akram grounded.

Saifeldin skied a chance to get Sudan back in the lead in the 62nd after Wali El Din was sent down tumbling by Abdoulaye Kante.

But he atoned for the miss with the winner in the 75th – burying a blind back pass to seal the game.

The win take Sudan to second in the table standings on three points behind Morocco, who enjoys a better goal difference. The hosts opened their campaign on a high thumping Mauritania 4-0.

Group ‘A’ matches take a break till next Sunday when Sudan will face Morocco and Mauritania will lock horns with Guinea.
