Defending CHAN champions DR Congo have failed to make the 2018 edition after being knockout of the qualifiers at the last hurdle by neighbors Congo Brazzaville on away goal’s rule.

The second leg third round qualifying match ended 1-1 at the Martyrs Stadium, Kinshasa on Saturday.

In the initial encounter in Brazzaville last week, the two teams battled to a barren stalemate.

Les Leopards started the match on high and managed to see the back of the net in the 35th minute through JM. Mundele.

However, Juresse leveled four minutes later to silence the home crowd and crash their CHAN dreams.

The visitors held on strong to secure the score line and sail to the continental showpiece scheduled for January next year in Kenya.

In another qualifier, Uganda made the cut on 3-2 aggregate despite going down 2-0 away to Rwanda.

Uganda qualified for the last edition which Rwanda hosted in 2016 but failed to make it past the group stage. Rwanda on the other hand crushed out at the quarters in the hands of eventual winners DRC.
