Coaches praise SportPesa Arsenal Training Camp

Coaches managing clubs in the SportPesa Super 8 Premier League are counting their blessings as the SportPesa Arsenal Training Camp entered the third day on Wednesday 25th May at the Kenya School Of Monetary Studies.

Eight coaches who led their respective clubs to the regional finals of the SportPesa Super 8 regional finals last year have a special opportunity to enhance their skills in a week-long training by coaches from English giants, Arsenal, who are in the country courtesy of popular betting company Sportpesa.

Coach Robert Orangi,29, manages Kabete United in the SPS8 League and the youthful tactician had nothing but praise for the program saying that football will improve if all stakeholders combine their concerted efforts for such a noble course.

“This program has come at the right time for the coaches, we have learnt so much in the little time we have been in the session and this has been an eye opener not for me only but for all the football stakeholders.” Orangi remarked.

He added: “The training will empower the coaches in future to nature and tap new talent from a young age and how to develop it step by step. This is important because football is about proper structures which lacks in Kenya.”

Orangi’s charges represent the West Conference and are hoping to get back to scoring spirit when the league resumes from the mid-season break next month. Kabete are currently 11th placed on the 16-team table standings with 17 points.

His compatriot from East conference and head coach for Makongeni Sports Association (MASA) Hassan Andale shared the same sentiments adding that there is more to football than just kicking the ball.

“We have been taken through intensive training about psychological and player physiotherapy an it has been a wonderful experience so far. I hope to really review my coaching strategy and incorporate what I will have learned after the whole week to enhance my team and other players also.” Andale said.
MASA are ranked 8th on the grid with 19 points.

Other coaches from the SPS8League include Kayole Asubuhi’s Isaiah Omondi, TUK’s Francis Oduor, Shadrack Ateka from Melta Kabiria, Kelvin Njoroge from Kiambiu Youth and Diguna’S David Oduor.

Arsenal legend Sol Campbell is expected to jet in the country later on in the week and will join the rest of the trainees which includes caches from across the country on Friday before the curtains come down on the clinic on Saturday 28 May.
