Dedebit FC beat Ethiopia Nigid Bank 2-0 to lift the 2016 Ethiopia Women Premier League title on Saturday at Hawassa International Stadium.

Loza Abera was the toast of the day, banging in two unanswered goals to hand Dedebit their second league title since winning the inaugural tournament in 2011.

Abera who has been phenomenal entire campaign walked away with the golden boot award with 10 goals, two ahead of legendary Shitaye Sisay of Nigid.

10 teams from the two zones making the Ethiopian Women Premier League have for the last 15 days have been fighting for the league gong in a championship format in Hawassa City culminating in today’s final.

This was the fifth league tournament and Nigid were hunting for their fourth title having won the last three consecutively but Dedebit reigned supreme.

It was the sixteenth time the two giants of Women football in Ethiopia were meeting, with Nigid carrying a superior head to head record (8 wins, 6 losses and 1 draw).

The two teams previously faced off five times this year; Dedebit who has had a superb season winning three times against Nigid’s single triumph with the other meeting ending in a draw.

The crown is a sweet one for sensational Abera who had never won it before; the youngstar scored over 50 goals this season was a core member of the senior national team. She has been linked with a professional move to Europe.
