Djibouti face off with battle hardened Lone Star of Liberia

Liberia will look to boost their hopes of qualifying for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations when they face hosts Djibouti in a Group A clash on Thursday 24 March, kick-off at 15h00 CAT.

The Lone Stars have had a mixed start to qualifying in their group, losing 2-1 in their opening match away to Togo in June last year, before claiming a famous 1-0 home win over Tunisia three months later.

The results see them placed second on the group on three points, three adrift of leaders Togo.

However, with the Sparrow Hawks and Carthage Eagles set to take points off each other in their two meetings, Liberia will fancy their chances of moving up the standings – but first they must beat Djibouti both home and away.

The minnows have been on the receiving end of two defeats, first being crushed 8-1 away to Tunisia before going down 2-0 at home to Togo.

The East Africans have no realistic chance of qualifying for the next AFCON, but avoiding defeats such as the one they suffered at the hands of Tunisia will be a high priority.

This will be the first official match between Djibouti and Liberia, with Eritrean referee Idris Mehammed Osman set to take charge of the encounter.

The return game will be played in Monrovia on March 29.
