Egypt will not take Kenya’s slot at the 2018 CHAN to be held in Morocco due to “congested domestic calendar” a source has intimated to Soka25east.

After Kenya was stripped off the hosting rights to the tournament, CAF’s Executive Committee meeting in Lagos last weekend announced that Egypt will take their position in the competition.

But according a source in Cairo, the Egyptian Football Federation has turned down the offer.

Egypt was the natural candidates to replace the East Africans since they were eliminated by Morocco in the final round of the tournament’s qualifiers.

As it stands, the slot reverts back to the East African region.

Like Kenya, Egypt has never graced the biennial championship played strictly by home-based professionals since its inception in 2009.

DR Congo are the defending champions after back to back wins.
