Egyptian goalkeeper coach Abdo dies from coronavirus

Egyptian goalkeeping coach Mohamed Abdo has died after contracting coronavirus according to a statement from the Egyptian Football Association (EFA).

The EFA announced that Abdo who was working for third-division club Badr died on Monday from the Covid-19 virus.

The country’s football governing body have since joined in mourning the 59-year old Abdo and offered condolences to the family.

This is the first death among the members of the sporting community in Egypt since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Football activities in the North African country have been suspended owing to the outbreak of the coronavirus.

Egyptian football clubs have suspended training with requests made to players to conduct individualized training at home.

According to the latest health ministry statement issued on Monday, Egypt registered 346 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total to 9,746 cases and the death toll to 533 nationwide.
