Egyptian Premier League set for July restart

Egyptian clubs have been given a huge boost by the government as the League looks to resume after it was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Egypt’s Minister of Sports and Youth, Ashraf Sobhy announced at a press conference that all sporting activities in Egypt will resume on the 25th of July.

Football clubs are hence allowed to return to training starting the 20th of June.

The Egyptian Premier league was halted in mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Every board is responsible for providing all precautions,“Beginning with individual, non-contact, and outdoor activities, separating players and administrators from organizers,” he said.

The Minister warned that all clubs would face sanctions in case of any breach of rules.

And Egyptian FA president Amr El-Ganainy who was also present at the conference insisted that the resumption date is not guaranteed.

“There is a scheduled meeting with all clubs in the coming hours, and the deadline for the matter will be decided with everyone’s consensus,” said EL-Ganainy.

“We have several tournaments next year, including the Tokyo Olympics, and we want to get achieve medals, as well as organizing the Military World Cup in Egypt, in addition to the Egyptian clubs’ participation in African championships.”

”I hope everyone will help us to get the activity back and forth again without setbacks.”

El-Ganainy insists that all games will be played without fans and the same will apply to Al Ahly and Zamalek games in CAF Champions League games against Wydad Athletic Club and Raja Club Athletic respectively.
