Etoile Sahel have completed the line-up of semifinalists in this year’s CAF Champions League after they ousted Al Ahly Tripoli on Sunday evening.

The Tunisian giants defeated their Libyan visitors 2-0 in the teams’ quarterfinal, second leg match at the Olympic Stadium in Sousse. The first leg last weekend finished in a goalless draw.

Etoile claimed an early lead through Amr Marei, who struck home in the 14th minute to see ESS take the ascendancy in the tie.

The 25-year-old Egyptian was on the score sheet again early in the second half, finding the net in the 47th minute to extend his side’s lead to 2-0.

The two-goal victory proved to be enough for ESS, who advanced into the final four to keep alive their dream of adding to their one Champions League title.

Etoile will face Cairo giants Al Ahly in the semifinals, with the first leg set to be staged in Tunisia next weekend and the return game in Egypt on the weekend of October 20-22.

ESS and Ahly famously met in the 2005 and 2007 Champions League finals, with the Egyptian side winning on the former occasion and the Tunisians on the latter.

The other semifinal tie will see Algeria’s USM Alger come up against Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca.
