FIFA Women’s WC: Norway demolish African Champions Nigeria

African Champions Nigeria suffered a 3-0 bashing at the hands of Norway in a FIFA Women’s World Cup match played at the Stade Auguste Delaune in Reims, France on Saturday.

Guro Reiten‘s deflected effort on 18 minutes put Norway in the lead after a robust opening to the first half.

It wasn’t the start Nigeria would have wanted as record shows that they have not won any game at a World Cup in which they have conceded first.

Chances were not coming for Nigeria, Desire Oparanozie and Asisat Oshoala feeding on scraps in the final third from counter attacks but it was Norway who were seeing more of the ball in the first 30 minutes.

Lisa-Marie Utland doubled the lead for Norway on 35 minutes before an own goal from Nigeria defender Osinachi Ohale, gave the European nation a 3-0 lead in just a minute later.

Norway went into the break with a commanding lead making the team talk easier for coach Martin Sjogren and not so much for his compatriot Thomas Dennerbey in the Nigerian dugout.

The former World Champions continued to edge the possession in the second half with them looking dangerous in attack.

Nigeria looking to rescue the game came into the game with a bit more of aggression on the right from Francisca Ordega

Asisat Oshoala almost got a goal back for Nigeria 20 minutes from time but her effort went wide from a tight angle after rounding Norway keeper Ingrid Hjelmseth.

It proved to be a tough night for the Super Falcons as Norway went on to register an emphatic victory.
