FKF Electoral Board to publish roadmap for fresh football elections

by Agnes Amondi

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Electoral Board will publish a roadmap for fresh football elections on Tuesday 11, after it received communication from world governing body FIFA on how the disputed elections will be conducted.

In a statement on Thursday evening, Board Chairperson Kentice Tikolo confirmed she has been briefed & will conduct the procedure as per the FKF and FIFA statutes and electoral code.

“As advised by Fifa, the elections will be conducted in accordance with FKF Statues and Electoral code currently in force, and the Fifa guidelines where applicable.”

Additionally, Tikolo assured that the fresh polls will happen under the current health regulations imposed as a result of COVID-19.

“The Boards remains cognizant of the COVID-19 situation in the country and has agreed with both FKF and FIFA that the electoral process will be conducted within the existing health regulations in the country, and with the safety and well being of all involved.”

The Sports Dispute Tribunal (SDT) has twice nullified FKF elections, in November & March, for not being free and fair. Amongst the issues that were contested are the composition of the Electoral Board, and the eligibility of the electoral code.

FIFA officials were to hold talks in Nairobi with FKF and the Ministry of Sport together with stakeholders in a bid to curve a way forward as to how the polls will be conducted. However, with the latest development, it remains unclear whether this is still on the cards.

The incumbent Nick Mwendwa is seeking yet another mandate for the top seat. Other contestans include ex-CECAFA Secretay General Nicholas Musonye, Herbert Mwachiro, Twaha Mbarak, Lordvick Aduda, Sam Nyamweya, Tom Alila and Sammy Shollei.
