Former captains Pierre Aubame and Daniel Cousin have been named as co-coaches of Gabon after the dismissal last week of Spaniard Jose Antonio Camacho, the country’s football federation said.

Aubame is the father of Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang while Cousin, who was a forward at Rangers and Hull City, previously acted as team manager in charge of logistics.

Francois Amegasse, another former national team skipper, takes over Cousin’s role. ‘Given the urgency and the current situation, it was decided to constitute, around the Panthers of Gabon, group of coaches with a very good knowledge of Gabonese football and its environment,’ Fegafoot announced.

‘Therefore, we have as national coaches, Pierre François Aubameyang and Daniel Cousin, while Françols Amegasse will act as General Manager.

‘These three former captains of the national football team deserve, with their strong knowledge on the field and experience of top-level competitions, to transmit their experience and tactical abilities to the team.’

Camacho, a former Spain coach, was fired last week after a run of only two wins in 17 matches in charge over the last two years.

Their first competitive games in charge of Gabon will next month when they face South SUdan in back-to-back 2019 qualifiers.
