Gavin Hunt favorite for Kaizer Chiefs job

Former Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt is being lined up to take over the reins at Kaizer Chiefs following the sacking of Ernst Middendorp.

Hunt is without a job following the sale of Bidvest Wits to NFD side TTM. Hunt was told to find a new job by the new owners of the club because they could not afford his salary.

Hunt is reportedly the number one target for Kaizer Chiefs as they look to end their trophy drought.

According to reports in South Africa, Hunt’s representatives were seen at the club’s offices on Wednesday afternoon, where they are believed to have had a meeting with club management.

If the said reports are true, then Hunt is the best possible alternative after the season ended in tears for Amakhosi.

Chiefs surrendered the title to rivals Mamelodi Sundowns on the last day of the season after a disappointing 1-1 draw with Baroka.

The 56-year old Hunt has also been linked with Chiefs crosstown rivals Orlando Pirates. He is regarded as one of the most successful coaches in South Africa.

Hunt’s greatest success came at SuperSport United, where he won three consecutive PSL championships from 2007-08 to 2009-10. He previously managed Seven Stars, Hellenic FC, Black Leopards and Moroka Swallows.
