Hours after losing Ethiopia Cup final to St. George FC, Defense Head Coach Gebremdhin Haile has quit his position upon expiry of his contract.

Defense lost 4-3 on penalty to the arch rivals at Adama Abebe Bikila Stadium on Thursday, crushing their hopes for a silverware in the just concluded season.

The match had settled for a 1-1 draw at full time.

Haile, who doubles up as the national team “Walia Ibex” Coach, had a poor 2016 season with Defense finishing 10th on 33 points in the 14-team league.

The experienced gaffer joined the team in the 2011/12 season; during which he managed to take Defense to three league cup finals, winning twice against St. George and Hawassa City and losing once against the former yesterday.

The former Nigid Bank, Trans Ethiopia and Coffee manager is linked with several offers including – Dire Dawa and Dedebit.

Haile will at the moment concentrate on the last AFCON 2017 Qualifier where Walia will take on Seychelles September; his last outing with the national side was a 2-1 victory over Lesotho.
