The forthcoming 2016/17 Ethiopian premier league season has continued to attract new talents across Africa.

Unlike in the past when only top dogs like St. George and Ethiopian Coffee, crossed the border to strengthen their squads, more teams are now following in their footsteps, in search of unique talents, not available locally – ushering in a new order in the transfer business in the horn of Africa nation.

Soka25east.com looks at some of the new signings – expected light up to topflight.

Togolese striker, Arafat Djako

Hawassa City F.C, has secured the signature of tTogolese international striker, Arafat Djako. The 27-year old has previously turned out for Ghanaian top club Ashanti Gold, Russia’s Anzhi-Makahachkala and Israeli sides, Hapoel Acre and Bneisakhnin.

He is expected to improve the two times Ethiopian premier league champions’ poor goal scoring record. Hawassa have also signed another Togolese, Mensa Shosho, a goalkeeper.

Kenyan defender, Sunday Mutuko

Sidama Coffee F.C have roped in Kenyan defender and midfielder Sunday Mutuko in a one year deal.

Mutuko started his career at lower league side Yatta Combined F.C before joining National Super League club, Shabana F.C in 2015.

He then crossed over to newly promoted Kenyan premier league outfit Kakamega Homeboyz in 2016.

Burundian striker, Didier Kavumbagu

Ethio-Electric F.C have brought on board experienced Burundian international forward Didier Kavumbagu on a 6-month contract, with option of further extension, if he delivers as per expectations.
The 28-year old former Azam F.C and Yanga S.C man was a free agent.

Ghanaian goalkeeper, Clement Ashitay

Dedebit have signed Ghanaian keeper, Clement Ashitay for 2 years. Ashitey, 21, previously played for Amidus Proffessionals before he joining South African side Bidvest Wits in 2015.

Ugandan midfielder, Yasser Mugerwa

Ugandan midfielder Yasser Mugerwa signed for Ethiopian champions, St.George from Orland Pirates of South Africa. Another Ugandan midfielder Christome Ntambi also inked a year-long contract with newbies Jimma Aba Bunna.

-Ethiopian Premier league will begin on November 12,2016.
