Premier soccer league (PSL) newbies Highlands Park have appointed Gordon Igesund as head coach with immediate effect.

“Be informed that Highlands Park have appointed Gordon Igesund as their head coach with immediate effect,” a statement issued by the club’s director Sinky Mninsi confirmed.

Sinky added that “reasons” and “other related issues” will be released later.

The 60-year old returns to the side he once played for as a striker in the 70’s, to replace Allan Freese, who managed four points in five games in the South African topflight league.

His next assignment comes on Friday, October 21, against Chippa United in round of 16 of Telkom Knockout at Makhulong stadium.

Igesund was poised to take over from George Lwandamina at Zambia’s “Chipolopolo”, but his prospects dwindled when the country’s President Edgar Lungu agitated for a local manager.

Igesund has previously coached top teams in the PSL including, Mamelodi Sundowns, Supersport United, Ajax Cape among others.
