How CAF intends to develop professionalism and leadership in women’s football

By Agnes Amondi

The Confederation of African Football, is not always far from criticism as far its fibble leadership or lack thereof towards women’s football in the continent is concerned.

Take for example, the fact that the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations that’s supposed to happen later this year, if the situation permits, still lacks a host. This has irked ardent followers of the game and further stamps the narrative that CAF doesn’t care about the women’s game.

It is for this reason that its professionalization and leadership Pillar for the development of women’s football will be a welcomed addition, one that ought to have been in place a long time ago.

The main objectives of the professionalization and leadership pillar include:

Increasing the number of women’s football administration across Africa;

  • Increasing the number of women’s football administration across Africa;
  • Examining the regulatory framework seeking to increase the opportunities for women in Executive roles; and
  • Working with CAF Member Associations and Zonal Unions to professionalize the structures surrounding women’s football on and off the field.
  • For the implementation of these targes, CAF will:
  • Organize capacity building courses for women football across Africa;
  • Encourage all Member Association to have dedicated personnel on women’s football, and
  • Harness the CAF Club licensing regulation to increase participation in women’s football.
