Indomitable Lions dominate Mozambique

Cameroon consolidated their position on top of Group F of the 2021 Total Africa Cup of Nations, beating hosts Mozambique 2-0 Zimpeto National Stadium in Maputo.

Cameroon coach Toni Conceiçao shows his offensive ambitions from the start, fielding Clinton Njie and Kunde Malong in his lineup.

However, at home and in front of the 2000 spectators authorized to attend this important match, Mozambique started well.

The hosts had a golden opportunity to take the lead after 22 minutes, when Cameroon defender Jerome Onguene fouled Luis Miquissone in the box for Mozambique to have a penalty. But Reginaldo missed from the spot in what was the game’s turning point.

Just four minutes later, Cameroon took the lead. Moumi Ngamaleu found Vincent Aboubakar inside the box, and the forward who scored a brace in the previous game controlled the ball calmly and scored past Mozambique goalkeeper Julio Frenque to give the Indomitable Lions the lead.

Mozambique entered the second half trying to find the equalizer, but it was Cameroon who doubled their lead. Substitute Tabekou Wambe received Moumi Ngamaleu cross to make it 2-0 after 73 minutes.

Miquissone was behind Mozambique danger in the final 15 minutes, but he found Andre Onana between Cameroon posts to stop him.

Cameroon tops Group F with 10 points, followed by Mozamique who have four. Cape Verde (3 points) and Rwanda (one) follow in that order and will lock horns on Tuesday.
